When Pea Montgomery discovers online that a woman her age with her name had died on her birthday less than two hours from her home, she finds herself in a search for a serial killer of 12 other women. While she had thrown herself into seclusion after the death of her six year old daughter and her abandonment by her husband, she enters a new and sometimes frightening stage in her life filled with self-discovery, a renewed sense of purpose and the possibility of learning to love again. With the help of this new love, new friends and her sister, she embarks on a new career into uncharted waters that only her own strength of will and character can help her survive. An ordinary young woman with an extraordinary talent for seeing patterns that even law enforcement misses, Pea becomes an unstoppable force and an unrelenting pursuer of evil.

When Pea, living in isolation after the death of her child and collapse of her marriage, surfs the internet and discovers that a woman with her name, age 20, disappeared on her 20th birthday, she feels a strange kinship and explores. Her sister is in a relationship with a former FBI profiler, and when Pea finds a dozen cases of women disappearing over the years, with only a few mutilated corpses even found, she tells Joseph. Shocked, he confirms her findings and, together with the lover of one victim, the three begin a hunt for the perp. In the meantime, Pea meets a man who just might be able to absolve her from the guilt she feels over the accident that killed her daughter and the failure of her marriage.
Two minor complaints (hence only 4 stars): If Pea is as devastated as the author paints her, her initial move to explore the disappearances and her swift response to a potential new love interest are out of character. Otherwise, the plot is fast-paced and the book well-written. Warning to the faint-hearted: some descriptions are graphic!

Porter grabs you in the first paragraph. The characters are rich with appeal and the plot keeps you turning pages way past the midnight hour. I look forward to more adventures of these two couples.
This book confused me at first, I couldn't find the right threads for this book. I think that author worked very hard on this book and it shoes. I can say that I had a clue on the killer from the start. I like Pea and Ree they are great, but I think that though the killing are realistic there wasn't much detail in that area. I felt like there was something missing but can't put my finger on it.

Good story line and great work by the author.
WOW! What a great book! I loved the characters and the way the plot and subplots unfolded. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to be "creeped out" by a book.
I liked this book. There were somethings that took me out of it, but overall, it was pretty decent. The few things that bothered me were the kind of over the top and out of character romances. Like another reviewer stated, it seemed out of character for Pea who is apparently so broken and sad to suddenly (or at least it seemed sudden) to fall into another relationship. The ending, although good, seemed a bit cliche for me. Most of the book, I was left in suspense about the killer but as I approached the end, it was very clear (and kind of a cop out IMO) to who it was. Also, it does get pretty graphic at some points so a fair warning to the faint hearted.

Overall, it was a pretty good book, I liked it. I don't know if I would read the rest of the series, but the book good on its own.
