I received a copy of this book for an unbiased review. This short book aims to assist the reader to a healthier mindset and lifestyle, with the assistance of some New Age spiritualism.

You may say that the spiritual approach is not for you; the author does at the outset list simple changes in behaviour that will help anyone, and invite readers to approach the book with a healthily sceptical mind. I personally think that there are many ways in which troubled people can be helped and can learn to regain confidence, healthy attitudes and behaviours. If some of those people take a spiritual path and reach a good outcome, I'm not going to complain. So, let's read with an aim to sifting out nuggets of wisdom which anyone can find useful, and some readers will no doubt learn more, and develop more, about their own characters as they go.

First we are encouraged to choose a goal. A ladder of goals will provide a framework for our progress. The ultimate goal should be something we will work towards out of love, not fear or obligation, and should be something concrete, like being a singer, instead of merely being famous. Comparisons are made with seeds being fitted to grow well in certain environments, and we are reminded that unlike plants and animals we have choices. By working towards our goal, we should be helping others and the whole world.

The author has added some Laws of her own personal beliefs which are nicely poetic, but not the physical laws of the universe. Her images of torus-shaped energy sources and patterns are pretty. Statements such as 'A quality magnetic field has to be earned' are confusing and unscientific, so I read this section as a work of philosophy.

Toxic friendships and toxic environments are warned against, as is entering a marriage for the wrong reasons - fear of being alone or unsupported. Other writers have backed up these principles, encouraging young people to be among friends who are growing and not destructive. We're advised to remove anything getting in the way of a healthy and toxin-free home - other writers phrase it as decluttering and destressing.

Statements such as "Humans suffering from voltage leakage become emotionally unstable and are prone to emotional consumption" are in fact echoed by those many diet books which tell us to give up refined carbs and eat unprocessed foods, even if miserable people want to eat carbs. Maybe they are miserable because they are eating carbs and toxins, is the gist of this section. It's also true enough that a stressed person has a more acidic metabolism, and diseases are more likely to occur when a person is stressed. The wise words on salt, sugar and fat in the western diet are borne out in "Salt, Sugar, Fat" a journalistic investigation of the processed food industry in 2013. The author warns that dairy cows are injected with hormones to stimulate milk production - they are in America, but giving food chain animals hormones and antibiotics is banned under European law. So really, this boils down to advice to eat an organic diet with lots of vegetables.

Symbols in branding logos, addictive habits and other issues are examined, with the same mix of philosophy and striving towards a positive outcome. For instance, hoarding is listed as an addiction. Anyone who has seen a hoarding TV show will agree that this is not healthy, and the hoarder has mental issues or distress which need to be addressed as well as physical environment ones. We're encouraged to learn, develop talents, make good choices and stop before we are full. We're also correctly advised to get enough Vitamin D from natural sunlight for good health, but not too much sun exposure.

All in all I would think that some people will get a lot out of this earnestly written book, and come away the better for trying to follow its principles. Other people would be more inclined to read and learn if the sound lessons were not wrapped and gilded with the New Age mystic approach. The author might consider reaching out to the second group by writing a less philosophical diet, exercise and positive thinking book which might be taken up by a larger number of readers, and in doing so she would be helping the world to be in a positive balance. Of course, she must make her own choices and I hope this clearly caring person is well and happy.

Richard Vasseur
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

While the idea behind this book was promising - learning to maximize the energy fields of the universe to impact those around you (and, ultimately, yourself), I found it confusing and difficult to get through. Basic principles were introduced with extensive use of scholarly language, but with an absence of clarity and tangible life examples. Specific terms were often used to describe principles or points in a section of the book, but were not in themselves clearly identified or outlined. While reading, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was still in the introduction and would soon get to the real core of the ideology, which unfortunately never happened. This book left me wanting more, and not in a good way.

However, the principles themselves were sound, the advice given - especially in regards to being considerate towards other living things - was excellent. I was also fascinated by the idea of other people being mirror images of ourselves.

I think the best addition to this book would be a clearly stated glossary of acronyms and terms, especially when those terms are usually used to mean something completely different in a day-to-day context, as happened with some of the wording I came across. The average reader and seeker would benefit greatly from this, as well as from more of a history of what exactly Mode of Living is, who adopts it, and where it originated from.

All in all, I found the book to be a good effort, with good advice and a lot of potential. It simply needs some tweaking before it can reach its maximum impact.
